Profile

Zhang Lan: PhD, Tenure-track Professor, Master's Supervisor. In 2014, obtained a Master's degree from Wageningen University in the Netherlands (ranked No. 1 in the world by QS in Agriculture and Forestry); in 2015, received a PhD scholarship from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and pursued a doctoral degree; in 2019, obtained a PhD degree from Wageningen University in the Netherlands; subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the supervision of Professor Ma Keping.
Long-term commitment to research on the regulatory mechanisms of functional traits in woody plants and the mechanisms influencing the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Through studies on plant functional trait dynamics in biological communities, investigates plant adaptation mechanisms to the environment and the impacts of biodiversity on ecosystem functions. Based on large-scale natural forest plots, large-scale field control experiments, and field observations, the main research focuses include: (1) the effects and mechanisms of plant functional traits on plant adaptability; (2) the regulatory role of biodiversity on plant functional traits; (3) the impacts and regulatory mechanisms of biodiversity on forest ecosystem functions.

As the first author, has published multiple papers in journals such as New Phytologist and Tree Physiology (a top journal in the field of forestry). Principal investigator of the Dutch SHK (Canopy Foundation) fund, the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences Ecology Fund, the general and station-based funding from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, special funds for basic scientific research business expenses of central universities, and other projects; participant in general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and China-US international (regional) cooperation and exchange projects.
